Newbie's First Purchase - Globalsat SD502 ?

Looking to make the leap into the world of GPS. Didn't have this sort of thing during my days orienteering, it's like using a calculator for maths, it's cheating.

Anyway. I am one for convergance, I purchased an XDA2i so I did not need to carry a phone and a PDA (or a wireless laptop). I therefore want the same from my GPS.

I have no interest in a seperate bluetooth GPS box and would like my XDA to remain as portable as possible, but am wary of power consumption.

So the real questions is - Can anyone suggest the best setup.

Do I get the Globalsat SD502 (when out) which keeps the XDA slim and portable and can slot into any holder in the car but only lasts as long as the battery when away from the car. OR should I get a Compact FLash jacket for the PDA, get the maps on an SD Card and buy the Globalsat CF receiver. I then have more power (There's a battery on the jacket), but have less options when fitting in the car and it will then look like a brick with no chance of fitting in a nice sleak case

I am swaying to the simple option of the SD502, but am worried about the power consumption and using up my only expansion slot.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
