|
|
evening all -
sorry if i'm bringing up something that has been covered many times before but couldn't spot anything relating to the acer n30.
i recently bought the software etc... for tomtom 5 on SD card for my PDA Acer n30, which apparently i should be able to use without any problems. However not having any joy with it... when i plug the SD card in tomtom starts up but immediately stops and will do absolutely nothing. i have tried launching the software seperately and get the same result.... the best i have managed is to get a legal notice on the PDA but when i click i agree everything crashes and i have to reset. haven;t had any other issues with the PDA relating to anything else so i am thoroughly stumped.
can anybody suggest anything... would really like to get this working if i can so any advice would be very greatfully received.
Cheers all :-) |

I did something similar buying a non-discript SD card and loading TT3 on a n35, this too froze several times once requiring a hard reset. At first I though it might be the card so ran 'scandisk' on it which found nothing wrong.
What was wrong I am not sure but it seems to have had something to do with the GPS setting as the problem went away when I got the setup right.
Guess work really but when TT starts the first thing it does is log on to gps which if set up completely wrong?? TT3 has a separate TT GPS program which I used without starting the main program. As soon as it started to log on to GPS then the main program worked fine so perhaps thats why it's a separate program??
Setting on mine are
NMEA 0183v2 57600
GPS ON NAVAGATOR
Of course this may well not be the same with your receiver but theres plenty to choose from!! |

hmmm.... slight difference tho with the N30 is that it doesn't have the GPS software built in... like you said... so i'm at a bit of a loss really as to where to go with it as can't get it to upload and can't seem to see how i can change any settings with it... interesting that you had a problem with it tho as well... it seems the more guess work i put into it the further i get but seem to have reached a bit of a stale mate with it! tempted to pick up another CD version of the software and see if i can get it to run, altho that does seem a bit silly when i have a version on the SD

It might be the same thing if TT cannot find the gps at all?..I don't know
The problem we both have is the Acer is brand new to GPS much like us but I have used Acer products for years and would always pick them in front of the competion unless I knew for sure something else was better.
Their help desk is really friendly and as helpful as they can be although they too are new to GPS. I need to ring them today about my problem and I will see what they say about yours. |

Hi,
I have an Acer N10 which runs TomTom 5 fine. If i thought there would be any product unable to do such a thing it would be the N10? I was wrong in my assumption, However i did find that running with only 128meg SD card gave me terrible trouble. It was slow and often froze requiring soft resets. However updating to a 512 fast SD card cured all my problems?
What size card are you running? Can you try another to see if it resolves your problem?
Cheers

I should have also said that it is possible to load Tomtom without a GPS receiver attached. You should be able to access the program and make GPS changes even with no device connected. Once you close down and re-attach your receiver your settings should be stored and ready for use on next boot of TomTom. |

hmmm... yeh, i have tried the run GPS software without and with the receiver plugged in but on both ocassions got no joy... have been really happy with the Acer as a product and agree that they work really well which is why i was surprised that this didn't load up so easily...
with the SD card i went for a 512 cos i thought that would be a bit quicker, i imagine the N10 is an older model, i'm guessing, which makes me even more confoosed as to why it doesn't work on the N30...
if you were able to ask the help desk about it that would be amazing and very much appreciated.

HI There,
I have no relation to Acer, I just own an N10 (which is a much older product than your N30). Sorry for any confusion. I had problems freezing at the licence screen. Once i got past that i had problems with the route planning stage. But all is good now!
I was thinking also, was your installation fresh. Like Standard pcs it seems the registry can get a bit messy if your constanly adding/removing programs. IN the end something gives and a program no longer works or works incorrectly? I know it's a pain but have you tried a new install after a hard reset of the PDA? Try installing TOMTOM first? |
