Hi all,
I'm having problems with TomTom/Axim X5/BT338 and thought I'd check to see if it is the 338 that is the problem. It came with software GPSInfo. i have installed it on my PC and paired the 338.
It has set up the bluetooth serisl port on com 7. I connect to the 338 and launch GPSInfo. I "scan port" and on com7 it says No GPS receiver.
Any thoughts???

Thanks

Check that you have the right com port. I know that sounds glib, but there are two serial ports one inbound and one outbound. Try th eother serial com port and see if the device sees the GPS.

In addition, where are you testing this. Make sure you are outside and that the GPS has a signal (This can be checked with the correct flashing lights). TomTom won't work until it sees the GPS.

If I have got the wrong end of the stick and it is TomTom that won;t see the GPS, slect Other NMEA devices, the correct com port and speed of 38400...

Thanks Simon
The Globalsat GPS green light is flashing so it presumably can see satellites. I connect using the bluetooth manager on the PC and it tells me to use Com 7. I launch GPSInformation software and the only ports that it sees to scan are 1,6 & 7. On 1 and 6 it comes back with No Device and on 7 it says No GPS Receiver. After which the BT338 disconnects itself.

I'm only trying to check that the 338 is actually working by using the Globalsat supplied software. This is after numerous attempts to get TomTom to see the device. Inc downloading 5.1, using Other cable NMEA. What happens is that Bluetooth console asks me to select a device and when I pick the BT338 the Pocket PC just hangs. Also the icon on the pocketpc for the GPS device has a blue question mark on it...
