|
|
Hi all
At present I use an adaptor in the cigarette lighter to keep the PDA and GPS charged whilst out and about.
Does anybody know who (eg Carphone Warehouse etc) or how (Is this a DIY job?) to hard wire the system (Is it expensive?) thus freeing up the lighter without having wires cluttering up the footwells?
Thanks

It is a simple enough job if you have a soldering iron or even if you haven't...
Buy an in-line 12v cigar adapter from Maplin (99p) and a bit of twin cable or a ready made lead.
Ensure there is a fuse in the + (inner) lead.
Find a 12v line that is switched - ie is live when the key is in the accessory position. Probably easiest to do this at the fuse box or use a wiring diagram for your car. Connect the inner lead to this.
Connect the outer lead to an earth point and that is it. |

I contacted Tomtom about getting some sort of setup but they said:
"Unfortunately we have no such cabling of the kind you require, we do not support the hard wiring of our items, you could seek the advice of a professional auto electrician."
Does anyone have any simple advice

Read my post above. You don't need to contact TomTom about this as you are leaving the cigar lighter plug in situ. |
