Has anyone tried using Autoroute (2004 205 ) and a laptop in the car ?

If so what type of setup ?

I have tried Btooth, but cannot get Autoroute to read the signal. BTooth seems to be going to Com0 and Aroute will not use Com0. I seem unable to find a method to change the com settings of the BTooth, Any Ideas ?

Does a hard wired version work better, or are ther problems there as well ?

Thanks

I use a Royal Tek RG2000 wired GPS receiver with a USB connector.
To power the laptop i use a 12v to 240v converter, saves the battery for when you need it. If you have the laptop on when driving make sure it is well secured, a heavy lump to go flying under heavy braking plus it doesn't do the laptop much good.

Tony. I use a Garmin GPS-35 unit its 12V powered and connects in via the serial port, the receiver is about the size, and shape as a PC mouse. Reception is fantastic - the only downside to the device is that you need to bolts it to the roof (which means one hole for the cable and four more for the retention bolts) - I have seen these on e-bay from time to time the last one went for around 15 quid, to buy new I think they are around 120 - Maplin might still stock them - Cheers - Mike

Many thanks for your replies.

Apolgies to others as this is slightly off topic and non PDA'ing !

Getting my wife (Navigator) to take on the laptop is bad enough, putting a hole in the roof, might not swing it my way ;-))

How useful do you guys find using autoroute ? or is the idea more problem than its worth. My idea is to use it mainly on the continent as a aid to maps etc. Aroute would seem an eaiser option to plan and monitor the drive rather than using Sat NAv.

I'm lucky in that my wife is good at, and enjoys, the naviagation side of travelling and routeplanning so Sat Nav whilst useful is a little restictive.

I was thinking of using a Medion Sim 2000 laptop ( its quite small with a 11 or 12 inch screen) ( avaiailble from Staples / Office World (UK))
Using this I can also load local maps from Aroute to the IPAQ and use them for walking in town or local drives + paper maps ( and lets face it Paper maps do seem to have more up to date / and useful information.

Rgds
