GPSlim236 Power always on

I asked Holux this and received an answer both of which I didn't understand and had nothing to do with what I asked, and was hoping someone here could help me.
I use an external antenna connected to my GPSlim236 and TT5 software on PocketPC. The antenna is on top of the car with the GPS unit located in the back. What I would like to know: Is it ok to hardwire the GPS so that it turns on whenever I start the car and stays on till I turn of the car even if I am not using it. I want to be able to just get in the auto and turn on the PocketPC and be on the way without having to crawl into the back and switch on the GPS. Will this work or will having power going to the GPS unit so much when not being used cause it to burn-up or something.
It wouldn't have power all the time only when the car was running.

This should work fine since the device has a slide on/off switch. You can even try and operate it without battery.
