Just back from my hols in France with Tom'Tim' GO and his new maps.
1) An error in mapping around Obernai (by Strasbourg) which was there in the old map is still there in the new map!!
2) The new map has, pre-emptively?, included yet to be completed Autoroutes.
When I got 'Tim' to direct me from N. of Saumur to Calais he sen't me along the A28 to Rouen and then Abbville. Trouble is the section from Alencon to Rouen is still being built!! Tim kept trying to direct me off the N138 by saying " In 200yds . , Turn left. Turn Left" and back on to the inaccessible A28! I had to completely ignore him and follow sign-posts!!.
Otherwise quite impressed, as he sent me along some un-named 'white' roads which weren't even on the 2cms Michelin map! _________________ Cheers, Doc L.

|
|
I returned last month from a 2300miles tour of France and found there were a few faults with the mapping and instructions. A few times, the voice said turn left, when the screen clearly showed turn right, (or vice versa). Sometimes, there was no alternative. On two or three occasions the instructions took me off a motorway exit, only to immediately return me back on, to continue on the same motorway.
There were two incidents when the Go 700 failed to lead me to my destination:
1: The most annoying fault was when travelling from Cordes sur Ciel, (near Albi), to Rocamadour, (a well know tourist attraction, in the Lot department). I set it for Rocamadour, crossing D673. I ended up in the middle of fields, (it telling me I had reached my destination, when at the junction of the D38 and D677, about 6kms North East from Laverge. I checked the settings, and all were correct. I finally found my way out of this confusion by using a very detailed Michelin map of France.
2: Another less important error, was when travelling from Castellane to Tourettes sur Loup, (near Grasse). I had set it for Tourettes sur Loup, crossing D2210. It told me that I had reached my destination when I was around Le Bar sur Loup. As this was on the same road, (about 8 kms Tourettes Sur Loup), it caused no problem. However, it made me sometimes doubt future instructions.
Last year used TomTom Navigator 3 with my Ipaq for a similar trip around France, with the full maps of France on a CD card in the Ipaq, and NEVER had a problem with routing. I even made the identical trip from Cordes sur Ciel to Rocamadour without problem. I never had to seek help from a paper map.
However, in general it was very good, and any re-routing calculations were very fast. |

You should have used Navigate to City Centre option instead of the crossings . |

Unfortunately small towns do not have a city centre option. Crossings seem to be the best option. |

You can get to a village centre if you type the village name in again when you are asked for the street name. _________________ TTGO 700 (dead)

I don't have the French Map on the TTG at the moment, but on the other maps the city centre option works with villages on those I tried.
I would have thought that the feature would have been consistent throught the set. _________________ Richard

I use this method most of the time; you, often, don't need to type in the whole town name, as it recognises the 'centre' (a little church symbol) after 2 or three letters.
It works with all the European maps I've tried! _________________ Cheers, Doc L.

That's disappointing I've just checked Rocamadour on the "old" MOWE and it has the little church symbol.
Mind you, the centre is also shown as being on an unnamed or unreachable road! _________________ TTGO 700 (dead)

I can Rocamadour by using City Centre and it shows it as being unnamed. I can also get it with the city centre symbol. That's using V562 of the France Map. _________________ Richard
