Generally, maps are device independent. You have North America maps, and you can use them with any of the device types - GO, PPC, Smartphone, Palm, etc. Each map has to be unlocked with the Device ID.
Maps have versions (in the PNA file) - this is used in some applications to allow or block usage of these maps. So if you set the map version of a TT 2004 US map to 562 then you can open it with TTN5, but no longer with TTN5.1
general statement: v5 maps can be used with any v5 application. v4 maps can be used with any v4 application etc. cross-usage is sometines possible, but always non-intentionally. And if TomTom can they will block that with service releases.
TomTom make the money solely through maps and hardware. The application is free, even though it has the most intellectual property. _________________ Lutz

as far as I remember (don't have a GO) current program versions accept both v4 and v5 maps. Not sure about v3 maps, but it could work too. _________________ Lutz
