Why does the John Cleese voice on the Tomtom download site have two files, one for Imperial and one Metric. I don't think other voices are like this. Surely, if you download the metric version for example and set your units to Miles then he will talk in yards to next turning etc. Similarly, if you download the Imperial version and set your tomtom to Kilometres, then he will talk in metres to next turning. Am I missing something here?Surely one file is adequate.

I could be really cynical and suggest that it creates a situation where some people will need to buy it twice..... |

This have nothing to do with your settings, only that MrCleese says "after 300 meters..." or "after 300 yards...".
I buy the wrong one, and TomTom switched this for me for free. _________________ Gunnar Nystul, Forum Admin, TomTom Forum Norway and Nystul Navigasjon |

Thanks for the information Zeena. I now understand that the settings for kilometres and yards in tomtom5 are not linked to the voices so that if I want to go to Norway, then I have to buy both versions. One version to use to drive across the uk and another on the continent. Anyway, as 300metres differs from 300yards by 28.0840 yards (84.2520 feet) then maybe I will just run in metric units from now on

There is NO technical reason to have two files. both "metres" and "yards" are included in each file. I guess your cynical suggestion is closer to reality. _________________ Lutz

When I used the yards version MrCleese says yards. Ans when i use the meter version MrCleese say meter. Indipendent of my settings or location.
Yes I know that TomTom voice-files have both words. I have never heard the word "Yards" here in Norway. (of course)
When will yards be played? In countries where they use yards? _________________ Gunnar Nystul, Forum Admin, TomTom Forum Norway and Nystul Navigasjon |

If you set up your TomTom software as a UK user you get to choose either Yards and Miles or Metres or Kilometres. |
