i`m wanting to buy a new sd card for tomtom as i only have a 256mb currently.

would it be better if i go for a 512mb kingston elite pro card or a 1gb viking standard speed card. there is only 10quid difference. does the faster card improve tomtom performance significantly? or would the extra space be a better option.

i basically use only tomtom and memory map on my pda (ipaq 4150).

thanks in advance

I don't know about the viking but what I can tell you is that SD card speed usually related to write rather than read speed and that it bares no relation to what speeds you might acheive in your device.

I have written a website that has several SD card speed results on it:

I have a kingston elite pro card and it was fine with TomTom.

Thanks.

In the end I went for the viking 1gb standard card. And all I can say is i`m impressed by the speed increase. I had a 256mb toshiba card before. TomTom loads up faster and the map updates are faster.

One pleasant surprise is that tomtom no longer complains if the bluetooth gps unit is turned off. Before it used to pop up the bt manager every 30secs moaning that it couldnt find a gps unit. with the new card its fine. I also dont have as many lockups.

just goes to show you what difference a storage card can make.
