Well, I'm not sure my experiences can be projected on a typicall UK user, but here on mainland Europe, TT5's maps aren't 100%, but Navigon's (the core program which gets relabeled to Aldi-blabla) are even worse. Worse by far.

I've used Aldi's Navigon for 2 weeks (version 4.3 - maps in 4.4 are identical) and not only did I find it to be a pretty illogical program (I agree, that's debatable), the map errors were pretty hillarious at some points. (like, "take LEFT" on a European highway. Oh yes, sure, if you're tired of living, that's a GOOD idea). Also, the "flexible map export" isn't half as flexible as they're sounding it to be, and it crashes quite often during exports of larger maps. And of course, exporting and pre-calculating larger maps takes AGES on a fast machine.

As I said, I'm not saying Tomtom's flawless. It's not, not by far. But when given the choice between TT5 and Navigon, there's NO way I'd go for Navigon.

By the way, I've noticed many problems in TT5 go away when using the latest update (5.10), not withstanding Tomtom discourages updating to that version unless you recongize one of the 3 problems they've mentioning in their changelog. I'm convinced MANY (but not ALL) of the problems being reported by TT5 users can be solved by applying the latest update.

The only reason to stay clear of TT5 would currently be if you're the owner of a Dell X-series PDA. For some reason, TT5 doesn't like working on a DELL PDA, and it behaves pretty weird.

Hi

Thanks for your reply

I've managed to get both running at the mo. Currently i find TomTom better to use than the navigon system. It seems faster to find places to go, map slightly more clearer and i have yoda as my voice! Laughing Out Loud

Been testing it out on my normal routes and so far so good. Only thing i have noticed is that a friend of mine who has a TT3 i believe on his mobile searched for Mc Donalds and it found one near by. When i search i cannot find any...

Ive downloads loads of POI from poihandler but it only gives me a small amount. I asked him if he updated the software with new poi's or anything like that and he said no

Am i doing something wrong?

Cheers

*scratches head*

How am I going to explain this without the risk of saying stuff that might be considered borderline.

1) Lots of people are complaining about not-correct working POI's in Tomtom5. While LOTS of people complaining about this are using a less-than-legal TT5 version (which has this specific problem), SOME people using legit and legal TT5 versions are having this problem too.

A solution for "can't find TT5 POI's" IS available on the net, but I'm not at liberty to discuss those kind of actions nor do I encourage or condone them. I've been discussing this on another forum topic already, no need to repeat all of that. Just do a search on this forum.

2) The TT3 POI file is called "poi.dat". You CAN try to copy that version over your existing TT5 poi.dat file, and see if your McDonnalds pops up as a POI then. Or better, rename your current POI.DAT so that you can revoke the change you made.

3) There are numerous alternative POI-places available for downloading. Be advised though, TT5 has a hard time coping with lots of POI's at once.
