Newbie help please

I am waiting for my TT to be delivered,but i have some basic? questions if you don't mind.

I am off the France in September,and i have just taken out European breakdown cover with Europ Assist. If the worst happens,and i do need to call them out,is there a function that can locate my vehicle for them,i.e will it give co-ordinates etc?

When i called the AA a couple of months ago,they used sat nav then,but they had trouble finding me because i broke down on a newly built road which didn't seem to be on their maps.

Also,how do i get the TT to avoid certain roads if they happen to be part of the calculated route? I plan on driving from Swansea to Dover,but i hate driving the section of the M25 anticlockwise from the M4,so i was advised to go clockwise,as it it supposedly less busy,so how do i "force" it to take that route.

Also,does it come with many POI built in? what about France? i have been reading up about downloading some,especially the French Hotel B&B chain,Mcdonalds etc

1 If you tap the bottom right of the screen, your Lat/Long is displayed on the right of the next screen.

2 Plan a route with the Via function

3 If you have the 700 there are many POI's built in. Other maps I'm not sure.

I'm sure there are better alternatives, if there are, someone will enlighten you.

Personnaly, if it's POI's that you want, I'd go for something like a Garmin Quest/Street Pilot - the database, in my opinion, is much more comprehensive.

Carlos my hub buddy :-)

To avoid a certain part of a route simply tell the TomTom where you want to go and it will plan a route.
Then go into the menu and select find alternative then select avoid part of route.
It then gives a simple text view of your route (rather like autoroute does) and you just select what road you want to avoid - works a charm.

As for POIs there are not so many built in but there are so many sites where you can download them from and I can always supply you with any (I only have UK at the moment - asda, tesco, morrisons, b&q, Macdonalds, KFC, etc etc).

And of course the 'safety' camera database is a godsend when installed alongside the voice warnings.

Just drive and it tells you when a camera is near and what the speed limit is.

Saved me a few quid already :-)

I had an email earlier,to say my TT is on it's way (£524.99 and pay in 9 months) from Dixons.

I have already downloaded several POI's for France to my laptop,but how do you put them in the TT ?

Do i have to extract the files into "my documents" first ?

When i click on the zip file,there is a folder,a bmp file and an ov2 file,what do i do with them ?

It's probably basic stuff,but i don't want to mess up,so if you guy's know already.....

The bmp file is what you will see on the screen when you are near the POI
The ov2 file is the actual database of grid references

Put both the files into your map folder on the TomTom SD card (on my TomTom the folder is called Great-Britain-Map

Then enable the POI using the TomTom menu (its really easy)

Judging by the price it seems that you are getting a 700. The only differance therefore is that you paste the FILES in the Western European folder.
