All,
In considering TomTom Traffic, I'm trying to price up how much it could cost me over the course of 1 year.
From the moment you switch on TomTom, and pair it with a GPRS, bluetooth mobile, how much data is downloaded for a typical journey of 100 miles?
You see, the annual subscription to traffic (€59) is one cost. The data download is another, but I cannot quantify how much it'll cost me to download the traffic information.
Couple of things:
I know that it's going to be dependent upon prevailing traffic conditions but would be grateful if regular users could give an indication of data downloaded, together with the frequency of usage.
I also know that the information is sometimes unreliable.
But I'd like to keep on-topic please.
Many thx.

I have begun a month's trial from 22 April.
During this time I've been making a trip round trip of 160 up the M1 once a week using TT Traffic, and been up to Center Parcs in Cumbria over the holiday weekend. I've set auto update every 12 minutes, and I maunally update in between as well.
Data usage to date has been 86k sent/479k received. So I guess 1 mb would be enough each month?
I have found it to be pretty accurate too.
Hope this helps. |

Less than 1 mg a month (or about £12.00 in data costs on orange for a year) + the subscription. It's a bit cack sometimes and the data feed is from itis, so don't blame TomTom all the time. _________________ iPhone5, TomTom, Google maps, Navfree, Viewranger and Apple Maps (ekk) |

1 Mb per month?
T-Mobile charge 75p per 1K
1Mb is 1024K
So that is 1024 * 75p = £768 per month I calculate
Or a rate of £9.99 plus £40 per month flat-rate connection fee. |

I pay £4 per month for 4 Meg and that is either on 3G or GPRS. I suggest you shift suppliers.... _________________ iPhone5, TomTom, Google maps, Navfree, Viewranger and Apple Maps (ekk) |

Almost every 15 minues, and on averge I sit in the car for 2 hours per day. Nav 5 seems to be using less data or the server seems faster, either way, the system has improved in Nav 5 for deliability, but not detail. _________________ iPhone5, TomTom, Google maps, Navfree, Viewranger and Apple Maps (ekk) |

I used Traffic over an 8 hour period and a 400 mile trip recently and it updated itself every 10 minutes. Total cost 40p. This is on an Orange Open Access tariff of £4 for 4MB monthly. |
