TomTom BT MkII GPS Receiver

does anybody know whether this unit can be charged/operated using the TomTom MkI docking/charging station ( as supplied with Navigator 2). A post 1 July suggests it can be.
My MkI unit has just failed(after 15 months) and I am looking for a replacement. The MkI unit worked well with the docking station hardwired and located in the central glove locker although more recently it was mostly used in a different car - just placed on the dashboard.
Given the premature? failure ( I have e-mailed TomTom but am not holding my breath!) the only attraction of the TomTom unit is if it fits the charging station.
If not, I would welcome any other suggestions for alternative BT GPS receivers with no compatibility/connection issues for an IPAQ 3970/Navigator 5.10 setup
