Readers of the TomTom Mobile forum further down will know of my complaint with TomTom, but I wanted to warn others of their patchy service....

It's obvious the TomTom mobile 5 release was going to be popular, and clearly anyone who ordered it directly from the manufacturer early on got it reasonably quickly. I (stupidly) decided to order it from a UK based reseller, and after a month cancelled the order - not their fault, they were getting no updates from TomTom either. I then ordered it directly from TomTom thinking I would get it sooner, and that's when the problems began.
I also know and recognise that some people are ordering the full kit and upgrade and getting their orders through in a reasonable time.

What does annoy me is the inability to provide a consistent customer service 'experience' - I have contacted them on numerous occaisions, and all bar one email has been replied to in a very unhelpful manner. I feel fortunate to have managed to get through via the phone on one occaision to be given a shipping date which has been and gone.

My experiences (and others) do imply that they are not set up for a large amount of orders - for example, the website stated when I ordered it would take 5 weeks for delivery. A week or so ago, the site was updated to say it will take up to 5 weeks for delivery *after* payment. Talk about moving the goalposts! (and paying 10EUR for UPS 2 day delivery too)

I wish someone from the company would read these forums and take notice of what we're saying.

The moral of this story is for anyone who is contemplating a TomTom purchase - buy one from somewhere who has it in stock, or be prepared for a long wait. If you're prepared for a long wait, order it from a reputable UK seller, at least they won't take the money from your card until they get some stock.

As for me? It's exactly 5 weeks today since I ordered mine. Payment was debited 17 days ago on my credit card and I still have nothing. I have issued an 'ultimatum' to get a tracking number by the end of today otherwise I'll talk to my CC about getting a refund through them.

I'd have to agree with that.

I too pre-ordered from a UK supplier, which has twice changed it's 'expected' date, like you say, no fault of theirs.
I was tempted to cancel and order direct, until these horror stories turned more...horiffic.

Apparently they ship to the highest bidder so this might explain the delays and chnages in delivery dates - I waited for two weeks for my GO. The date changed three times before it finally arrived.

I take it you mean for resellers? I'm still waiting for it from them directly...
