GPS Question?

Hi all

I run with TomTom Navigator on my PDA and it appears to work quite well. One thing I have noticed is that TomTom does not appear to take advantage of all the satellites available to it. On the TomTom main screen if I click on the signal strength bar it would say for instance 3 satellites, then if I go into the GPS page properly it displays the bars at the bottom (showing presumably signal strength vertically) but will display more than 3 satellites with some of them greyed out. I wonder if anyone knows whats going on here as some of the greyed out ones have signal strengths as big as if not bigger than the ones displayed in blue that TomTom is using. Any idea's anyone?

I think it is indicating the reliability of the fix. I have not checked, but as less than three satellites will not provide a position, the first bar is three satellites, going up to seven. There is little point in letting you know about sats after seven as the ywill not significantly improve accuracy or reliability of the fix. With my wired TT GPS I get all bars shown nearly all the time.
