|
|
Hi
Got my TTG 300 a couple of weeks ago and used it at the weekend for a trip. One part of the trip it didnt get any satalite links for over 15mins !
When driving from Birmingham to Mansfiled on A38 it kept losing sats ! One minute it would be locked onto 5 sats all bars white, then in a flash none ! then 5 again ! Sometimes the loss was for a minute or two, other tomes it was for a few seconds.
Can anyone tell me if this is n ormal or do I have a faulty TTG ? |

Find some clear space (not surrounded by buildings/trees).
Take you GO out of the car.
Wait for it to get the lock.
Go to the GPS status screen (tap right bottom corner -> tap right top corner)
You'll see the bars representing the quality of the satellite signals
Top number at the bottom of each bar is the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), the bottom number is the satellite.
You should have three or more readings of SNR higher or equal to 39.
Put your go back in the car (attach to the mount), look at GPS status screen again and compare with the readings you had outside the car. If they are vastly different you have a windshield which atenuates the GPS signal, the only solution is to get an external antenna. |

It could be that you have a heat reflecting window. If you tap the bottom right of the map window you get a small window pop up. Tap this and you will see the GPS Status.
When the TTG is in the car how many of the GPS signals are blue and how many are grey. You might have to wait a while to get a steady lock.
Also does the blue go all the way to the top?
If it doesn't, place the TTG on the roof of the car and see how much better it gets. If there is a lot of difference, you need an external aerial. _________________ Richard

Thanks Guys
I was just reading the Tom Tom forum and came to the same conclusion Renault Laguna windscreen.
I will try what you have suggested to prove the point and also try relocating the TTG. Thanks for the explanation as to the Sat screen |

Has anyone bought and tried an external aerial yet ?
Do they solve Renault screen problems ?
Are they easy to install ?
Do they have to be removed at the end of the day ? |

Plenty of people bought them for Classics and found external aerials very useful. It can be installed inside or outside the car and if installed inside you wouldn't need to remove it. On the other hand it is not recommended to leave any hints that you have a TomTom GO, so you'll have to remove the mount from the windscreen. |
