TTN5 is Sooo slow, could it be the SD card in my IPAQ?

I've just upgraded from TTN3 to TTN5 on my IPAQ 3870 and the performance is really poor, it takes some 8-10 seconds for the map to respond to tha car moving. I've got TTN5 on the IPAQ's memory with the GB Maps on a new 512Mb Viking SD card. Tom Tom have suggested that the card's read/write rate might be too slow, but haven't suggested an alternative. A colleague @ work has suggested using a SanDisk Extreme III SD card (a mite expensive though). Would love to recieve advice on my next steps even if that's spend more money. Meantime I'm back with Gool ol' TTN3.
