I have just been given a Mio 168 Pocket PC with an attached GPS receiver. There was no manual with it. How do I know if the GPS receiver is working.

Thanks

Presuming that you got a usb sync cable with it you need to download ActiveSync from Microsoft's web site and install it to your main PC.

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=d2645c21-8a85-45a2-8d13-653beb6cdddc&DisplayLang=en

Then download a program that will work with your Mio168, try a free trial of GPS Speed Sentry from: (you need the arm version, setup application)

http://homepages.ihug.co.nz/~tchart/

Then connect your Mio168 to your main PC via ActiveSync, then double click the gps_ss_arm.zip that you downloaded, then let it install to the default directory on your Mio168, then you can run that and see if it will work, note that when you first start the gps it may take up to a minute to get a signal, you need to configure the GPS Speed Sentry to use
COM2: Serial Cable on SP2
Baud: 4800

That should show you if your Mio168 is working OK., you may need to make sure that you have a clear view of the sky to get a good sat signal.
