We reviewed the RoyalTek Sapphire late in 2002, but RoyalTek have recently re-released the receiver with a new cable set joint. This new cable set replaces the original PS/2 plug/socket with a new Y-Plug.

We've reviewed the new RGM-2000 and you can read the review here.

Thanks for the review Dave. It's my second GPS, arriving in the Medion Navigator bundle. Initially I was not too impressed as I am used to a GPS that offers dozens of bells and whistles - with that package it "just works" with the only feature being a flashing green LED on the cigarette lighter plug showing it is in lock.

My other GPS is a Garmin GPS III from some time ago, this has many features but takes an age to aquire satellites and lock - this may be a sign of old age and drifting oscillators, as a friend's older GPS takes even longer to lock.

My RGM-2000 just sits on top of the dash and locks in seconds, certainly less time than it takes me to reverse out of the garage.

I find the cable length a little too short to use the GPS on my car roof, while not needed in the present car, I've had hire cars with metallised glass that stop GPS signals dead in their tracks... no chance of them working on the dash. One car was a Renault Megane hired on the Continent, the other a Vauxhall Vecra hired in the UK. I'm not sure of the model variants or if they had after market window tints (I suspect they were factory tinted being new hire cars).

Using the RGM-2000 with Medion Navigator seems to give very good accuracy and no sign of "unable to find GPS" or other errors.
