Having seen this post:
http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=24033

I have exactly the opposite problem-

My new Holux-236 works fine with TTN as a "serial GPS" on COM8 - but I can't get any other NMEA GPS software to talk to it, specifically Anquet maps (a copy of which I won at the meet last weekend) - but I've been trying all sorts of different software - JGUI's "Where Am I", and the Holux GPS Viewer that comes with the GPS can also not see the GPS on COM8, 38400 Baud - I just get a "Cannot open COMport" error.

From searches on here, I'm guessing this is something to do with the TomTom GPS driver built into TTN5, but I can't fathom how to fix it.

My PDA is an iPaq 2210, and I used to use a wired GPS which has been replaced with the Holux. Can anyone help me before I do a hard-reset and start from scratch?

Hmm, I have Navman SmartST, Garmin Que and TTN5 on my iPAQ 5555 and they all work just fine with my Garmin GPS10 receiver. SmartST and TTN5 also work with my two Navman receivers. Could it be that you have something running in the background which is occupying the Comm Port?

Tim

I thought that might be the case - but it doesn't really explain why TTN5 works with it... unless TTN5 isn't releasing the com port.

I think I'm gonna hard reset the iPaq and start again tonight

well, a hard-reset and about 2 hours spent reinstalling everything has resolved the problems, all my GPS software is now working with the Holux...
