Hi,

have just received the new TTG500 from misco. All is OK apart from the fact that we cannot use both the Traffic function & the Tomtom hands-free function at the same time. We get the same problem with 2 different mobles Motorola V3 & Nokia 6310i. Both work fine using the functions separately.

If I get into the car with the Tomtom in place & the mobile switched on, the phone connection is made OK but when we try to update traffic we get an error message saying it cannot connect. At this stage we can use the Hands Free function to receive & send calls fine - it's really good.

If we disconnect the Tomtom via the mobile phone menu & then try to access traffic, it fails on first attempt & then succeeds on the 2nd. Traffic updates OK but then the Hands-Free function no longer works.

When we first connected the mobile phones we did select the option to use both phone & GPRS.

Any ideas? Question

I had the same problem with a Vodafone 550...but with a Nokia 6230 it seems to work fine. On the Nokia there is a setting to disconnect the GPRS when not in use, which the Vodafone doesn't have - and I wonder if this is the key. If you try calling the Nokia while it is actually on line updating the traffic it does not appear on the handsfree, but as soon as the update is done another call is passed through to the screen with no intervention needed.

Not sure if it is just a quirk this afternoon, but although Traffic is working, weather appears not to be - not sure if that is a problem with the weather server or a setting I have missed on the new 500.

hi,

we used the tomtom today to travel from essex to devon. The traffic was very good & rerouted us off the M25 when there were problems. It didn't appear to know that there's a ferry across the river dart that takes longer than a minute but apart from that it was excellent.

However we still had the same issues using the Nokia 6310. If we called the phone even when it was not doing a traffic update it did not appear on the hands free but if we used the hands free to make a call it worked & then could it receive calls but the traffic update stopped. We have not managed to get weather - has anyone?

Does anyone use it to receive/make calls & do traffic updates with no issues? I also have a 6230i so will try that & look at the GPRS settings.

Hi, i am having the exact same issues with my Sony Ericcson S700i and Nokia 6310i. After some investigation it is actually down to the features of the phone as to whether it can deal with 2 bluetooth requests at the same time. The majority of phones can only deal with 1 at a time which is why we are all having the same issue. Connected to phone for calls then no traffic, connected to traffic then no calls and round and round we go!

Tomtom do have an official list of handsets on there website

http://www.tomtom.com/products/section.php?ID=73&Section=108&Language=1&Tab=2

which I have to say is pretty small considering how many bluetooth capable phones are out there.

The tough thing is finding out what phones can do it without trial and error but with shop returns policies this is not always possible. Also its tough to expect phone shop staff to know for sure because it is such an unsual reqirement for a phone to need.

I have worked in the retail end of mobile sales for 5 years and whilst i was away of single bluetooth connections for most phones thought tomtom may have found a better way round it Wink

As for the answer a Nokia 6230 seems the best option! But as it is no longer produced we can only hope the newer 6230i is capable!

My GO 500 experience is not lliving up to its promises so far!

Hi,

we now have some progress on this. We have tried it with my new 6230i & it works perfectly! & with all the hands-free functions.

With the 6310i we have now found out that there are different levels of firmware. The one we were using had v5.22 & this had the problems already described. We are now trying with another old 6310i with firmware v5.5 & will report back (we are a family of 4 with a variety of old phones!).

I too have this same problem, once again using the SE S700i and the Tomtom Go 500. Is it a problem with the phone though?

When you first pair the phone to the Tomtom it puts the phone into handsfree mode. Then during the setup process the Tomtom takes the phone out of handsfree mode and connects to the internet. Once it has finished updating the server it returns the phone to handsfree mode.

Surely this is whats required when you update traffic on the Tomtom so if it works during setup why not when using traffic?

I have played around with different settings when pairing the phone to the Tomtom.

If I select 'Incoming phone calls can be accepted while accessing the internet(recommended)', Traffic constantly fails to work.

If I select the second option 'cannot be accepted while accessing internet', Traffic works fine however handsfree doesn't work correctly. The Tomtom recognises an incoming call but when you answer it you can't here the caller. Likewise if you phone someone you can't here them although my wife said she could here me faintly on the landline I was calling.

This leads me to believe the problem may well be with the Tomtom and all that is needed is a firmware patch.

However I could be wrong, wouldn't be the first time. Laughing

I have uncovered the same problem with the Sony Ericsson V800.
Since I had this phone I have been hugely impressed with it, so I was dismayed to hear from Tom Tom Go that my phone is not compatible with their product :o

(For the record it took several days for TTG to reply to my support request, and their answer was brief and terminal - not very helpful.)

In any case, I am resigned to the fact that I shalln't be using the hands free function because the Plus function is more important to me. Instead I'll stick a wired headset in the phone for now Rolling Eyes

Anyone who is struggling with this (and it stumped me for a couple of days) should learn that you must first unpair the phone from TTG before selecting the traffic update.

Incidentally, the traffic information is hit and miss and told me the road home from Silverstone to London yesterday was totally clear all the way. In fact the main routes South (A43 and M40) were choca. By contrast RAC Live/Traffic Master on 1740 was spot on as usual.

I have got my Tomtom Go 500 to work with my SE S700i with handsfree and traffic at the same time, although there is a slight work around as the process isn't completely automatic.

I paired my phone with the Tomtom and selected the second option of 'Incoming calls cannot be accepted while accessing internet'. I set in my route and then enable Traffic. Tomtom updates and displays the traffic on route. Now on the Tomtom go to mobile phone and touch 'connect to mobile'. The phone now connects and works in handsfree mode perfectly. I set my traffic to update every 15 mins. The Tomtom automatically updates the traffic but I have to touch 'connect to mobile' after every update to put the phone back into handsfree mode, not a perfect solution I grant you but it is only a few quick taps of the screen and you're back into handsfree.

There is a chance you'd forget to reconnect after an update but the Tomtom gives an audible 'Bong' when it has updated, a reminder to connect back to your mobile.

One other thing to point out, my Tomtom had the handsfree volume set at 70% even though I had voice direction volume set at 100%. At 70% I found the handsfree very quiet, I set it to 100% which is much better.

I am on version 5.1 and I cannot see the setting for handsfree volume as opposed to direction volume on the 500. Is this a new feature with 5.2?

Sorry Bob, after much playing around with the Tomtom it seems there is only one sound volume. I'd convinced myself before I'd set the voice sound to 100% but it must of only of been 70%. Embarassed

Not a problem...gave me the excuse to play with the kit for a bit rather than do some real work!

Has there been any progress on this? I'd like handsfree and traffic to work simultaneously on my GO500 / S700i combination, but I too suffer the same problem described above. Is there a fix? I don't want a manual workaround. TomTom's website states that it should work, and I'm dissappointed to discover that they're lying.

During a phone call if you tap the lower left hand corner of the screen it will bring up the volume slider and this will set the level during phone calls.
