Newbie; can't get answers where I live.

Sorry to ask questions that have probably been asked a million times, but there is no GPS equipment or information where I live. I live in a mountain village in Romania. I have a Honda quad, and travel the mountains a lot. I've started making a hand map of the hundreds of dirt roads in the area, but it's getting ridiculous. A friend in the States suggested a GPS. I have no idea how they work. Can I pull up a map of a remote area like I live in, or can I make a map as I ride my quad? Also, any suggestions as to brand, model, and accessories I might need. I also own an iPAQ 3955; is there a way to turn this into a GPS and is it worth doing or should I buy a separate unit. Thanks for any help!

What you will want to do is scan in a paper map of your area, and then use a program like OziExplorer on your iPAQ, together with a Blietooh GPS receiver.

For your motorcycle you will need a rugged mount, something like the Otterbox 1900
