TTG 500 phonebook importing

ok, lets start by saying i confess i have not messed with this loads but on first impressions i appear to have a problem with TTG500 i purchased today.
Paired my Nokia 6230i to phone, tried importing phonebook, which it started and "completed" however it has only imported the entried starting with "A" amounting to about 12 entries ( i have about 300)

Am i doing something wrong?
Is there a limit to the number of entried i can import?
or maybe its just yet another bug?

I've seen some others have problems with 700 & 500 copying phonebooks across.
Some phones just won't do it, including my SE P910i.
Some phones won't copy from the SIMcard but will if numbers are in the phones memory.

There's a list of compatible phones on the TomTom website at

I've created a text file called contacts.txt
You put entries in it as follows
"Joe Bloggs","0123456789"
"Jane Bloggs","9876543210"
save file then copy to root directory of TomTom.

That now gives me a list of basic numbers that I can call.

I am using a Sony Erricson T610 (My C500 died over the weekend) this downloaded the whole phonebook with no problems.

If like me you have all your numbers stored in Outlook or a similar contact management system then you can export them in comma seperated format, import into Excel, massage them a bit and then write them back out as contacts.txt. Simple and easy ( 8O ) way to manage the phone book.

ive got a nokia 8800 and it imported them all with no problem

however if I say click "c" on my nokia it will bring up..

chris
chinese takeaway
charles
club
callum

etc etc etc

if i click c on my ttg I get about 20 entries

basically any word that starts with a c

so

chris
chinese takeaway
charles
club
callum
adam Cooke
leeds Coop
john Craig
york Cookshop
etc etc

wish it just displayed the names in the same way as the phone

Another little featue of the phonebook that I found is that when you pair with another phone the GO retains your phonebook. I got my C500 replace so I went back to my original setup. the GO now has the phonebook from the SE T610 but I am paired with the C500.

Another newbie to the site. I have recently purased TTG 500 and my Blue Tooth phone is a Nokia 6600 which allows phoning but not importing the phone book.

I note the above comments regarding building a contacts.txt file. You say then Save and copy to the root directory of TomTom but which folder do you paste the file in?

Can you then dial automatically with TTG? Where do you view the contacts.txt file?

Sirdodger needs a little more info.

Please help.

I have a Nokia 6230 and when importing the phonebook it made a diffrence as to whether I had the numbers stored on the phone or the sim card. I seem to remember that it liked the sim card numbers better.

The TomTom phone list does state that the 6230 "import phonebook" is not suported, so if it works its an added bonus.

Mine are on the SIM and I copied to the phone but it didn't make any difference.

Still not sure where to paste the contact.txt.

Any other ideas?

Look in the root directory of the GO whilst connected to your PC and you should find the file called "Contact.txt" if its not there create it and enter your numbers as described above.

I've got my contact in to excel and manipulated the data so that I now have just two columns ie full name and number. I have saved the file as CSV format but how do you add the double quotes easily ? I have about 300 entries, don't really fancy the manual method !! Just to recap, my CSV file saves as

My Name, 0123456

I want
"My Name","0123456"
