It seems that the "Edit point of interest" function in TomTom Navigator 2.05 (329) English has a bug in it.

My POI category is "Disabled parking", so I have "Disabled_parking.ov2" and "Disabled_parking.bmp" in my "\Storage Card\Great_Britain Navigator Map" folder.

I can add new POIs and delete them at will. However if I try to edit one (for example, if I want to change the description), instead of the edit taking place, I land up with the edited POI stuck in "Disabled parking.ov2" (note the lack of _). "Disabled parking.bmp" is created and contains the default POI icon.

The "Disabled parking.ov2" file contains the new POI and is otherwise full of junk, landing up approximately the same size as the original .ov2 file.

POIedit 2.4 errors if you try to open this new file using it, dumpov2 retrieves the one record from it and then errors, and if you rename the .ov2 and enable display of POIs from that file in Navigator, things go very strange (typically it shows the one POI in the damaged file, and no other POI icons will display).

In case the real "Disabled_parking.ov2" was corrupt, I dumped it to .asc with dumpov2, and built a new .ov2 from the .asc file with makeov2. It doesn't help - the problem persists.

I've sent this to TomTom support as well. Can anyone else confirm this problem - or is it something with my setup?

David

(in case it matters, iPAQ 3970 with 2.10 ROM, Lexar 256MB SD card, no apparent problems even though I'm running the 2.10 ROM).

Similar hapened to me with iPAQ 3850 and Navigator 2.05. I ended up deleting the POI I was trying to edit and adding again. It set up two ov2 files one without the "_"

You've confirmed the problem I'm seeing, and I've had to adopt the same work-round (delete the POI and add it again).

It looks like it is a bug in 2.05. Can you make a brief report to TomTom via their web site just so they know there's more than one affected user?

OK, just been on the TomTom site and registered it as an issue.

Cheers,

Steve.

We had some problems with a POI file called "Friends & Family.ov2" which I reported here several weeks ago. At the time I assumed the problem might have been caused by the "&".

Perhaps the answer, until TomTom clarify or correct the situation, is to avoid spaces, ampersands, etc. and use names like "DisabledParking.ov2" "FriendsFamily.ov2" etc.

I think it's that Navigator doesn't like any extended characters including a space. I've also reported this through my channels in TomTom yesterday.
