I have been trying to workout how the tomtom one is updated do you have to download a new file every month or is it done automatically,
is it possible to remove the tomtom one and replace it with the one ofrm this site as it seems a lot better
alos the tomtom site is so user unfriendly |

Hi worthingsaxovtr,
to the forum!

I guess that you didn’t know about out website and forum before you subscribed to the TomTom camera database?

Most users of the TomTom products that are able to use the Plus services and therefore the TomTom camera database have decided to stick with the free PocketGPSWorld one. There are a few people who have subscribed it, but the service is so new that we don’t know the frequency of updates. We aim to update the PocketGPSWorld camera database once a month.

I guess that you can switch it off and use the PocketGPSWorld instead, although you will have still paid the subscription. If you think that the TomTom database is unreliable then you could ask for a refund. It’s worth a try! ;)

Yes it is, although the more you visit it the easier it does become. Is there anything in particular that you need from the TomTom site?

Our database is just a set of POIs (Points of Interest) so I see no reason why not. Except that you may get a lot of duplicate warnings! ;)

worthingsaxovtr,
can you tell us what the TomTom version of the file(s) is called? I want to try an experiment on my Go, by renaming one from here to be the same...
I'm wondering if the reduction in POI's allowed is because some are reserved for the TomTom camera DB files...

errm,
I have no idea.. did you download a file from tomtom? Check in your map folder and in the top level (root) of the SD card.
How do you turn on the speed camera warnings from TomTom? If you have to go into the "Manage POI" screen then the file will have the name of the category you needed to enable... (in your main map folder)
for example.. if you had to activate: tomtomcameras then the file would be called something like tomtomcameras.ov2

i have emailed tomtom about their speed camera databse, see what their response is
if it is not good, i might just delet the files for the safety cameras, after disabling them, and download the free one from here,
i take it thats the right procedure to remove stuff
i now i have subscribed to it but i would rather have a licencse and loss the subscritpion money |

Doesn't say much for TomTom's database then, particularly as they claim
"Most up-to-date and complete set around"
and
"All sites checked and verified by TomTom field surveyors"
I wonder if their "field surveyors" work in customer service...

Dunno - but I wish they'd go and survey a few of the fields which now have roads running across them - but which don't appear on the maps! _________________ Roger

"industry's most up-to date street level map data?"
must rate as one of the top ten
1. "industry's most up-to date street level map data?"
2. No, I won't **m in your mouth.

is there a limit to the amount of POI's on the 700?
I have downloaded the speed zoned cameras and the regular ones, but things like the redlight cameras etc are not in my poi list to enable/disable?
any ideas!
thanks
