Using a PS2 Adapter on a UBS GPS Mouse- will it work?

I have globalsat BU-303 USB GPS Mouse. I want to use it with my Ipaq 5450 and have seen cables that would allow a connection through a PS2 adapter similar to the one you get with a ubs mouse or keyboard. Would this work? or would I need a special adapter cable from ubs to ps2.

or

I've seen powered mount with rj11 and/or mini usb inputs would any adapters for these work.

I've had the mouse working on my laptop with the usb port but when i tried it using the ps2 adapter in the docking station it could see it. I think its something to do with driver as opposed hardware because the driver creates a "virtual" com port?
