TomTom to sponsor the next PocketGPSWorld.com event
PocketGPSWorld.com is coming to Wales! TomTom have announced that they will sponsor our next gathering. We are setting up our biggest ever informal meet for GPS enthusiasts and the industry at large. AND ITS FREE (thanks TomTom)! People from all over the World are welcome and there's a prize for the one who travels the farthest.
That said, for all you Brits, it's only 90 minutes from Central London, 3 hours from Manchester, 1 hour forty five minutes from Birmingham, 1 hour and a half from Exeter and 1 hour from Swansea, so it's easily accessible for huge amounts of you, so no excuses - you're coming, right?
.. and it's being held at a cracking hotel so you could stay over if you like. There should be quite a few of us staying both Friday 1st and Saturday 2nd, so we'll see you in the bar to compare our latest gadgets - ooh, er!
Please note well though, we don't do seminars and conferences, this is all about a chat, a laugh, exchanging your stories and asking questions from a wide range of the industry's top experts. All you really need is yourself, your questions and your enthusiasm. It's up to you how much you get out of the meet-up.
So where is it?
The Celtic Manor Resort
Location: Coldra Woods, The Usk Valley, South Wales. NP18 1HQ
Telephone: +44 (0) 1633 410 259
http://www.celtic-manor.com
The Celtic Manor Resort is a world-class convention resort and offers a 346 room, 32 suite luxury hotel with 2 outstanding health clubs and spa, 4 restaurants and 2 very different and challenging championship golf courses. It is the home of the Wales Open and Ryder Cup venue 2010.
It is set in a 1400 acre estate in the Usk Valley bordering 23,000 acres of unspoiled woodland. Located just over the Severn Bridge, 90 minutes from London, there is excellent access to the M4, M50 and M5 Motorways.
And when?
Saturday 2nd July from 11.00-4.00
The meeting room only holds up to 175 people so you must register now to avoid disappointment. Existing PocketGPSWorld.com members will take precedence if the event is oversubscribed. Complete a couple of details now and we will add you to the list. We will let you know if you've been successful within 72 hours.
Looking forward to seeing you there!
To reserve your place send an email to gpsmeet@pocketgpsworld.com. Including your name, userid (if you have one), email address and the number of people in your party.
We will be posting more details in the next few days so keep an eye on this thread. _________________ Mike Barrett

Sorry, for many reasons it is that weekend or not at all. There will be more and hopefully you can make it to one of them?
As for the 4x4 meet, how lucky can you be 4x4's and GPS what better combination Don't forget to tell them about us, perhaps some of your 4x4 group can come along? _________________ Darren Griffin |

That's a very kind offer Dave (assuming you were indeed extending the offer of a bed at your house that is!!).
We're staying at the hotel but I look forward to seeing you there. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Sadly no, TomTom's generosity extends to providing the meeting room and some other support, we're funding our own accommodation as always. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Hope you've got corporate rate or large pockets full of cash. Pretty pricey. I know I've stayed there and played golf...It is a nice hotel. _________________ iPhone5, TomTom, Google maps, Navfree, Viewranger and Apple Maps (ekk) |

We have our wives with us, the hotel is our way of compensating them for having to live with GPS gadgets 24hrs a day! If we hadn't done that we'd be sleeping in tents in the grounds instead ;) _________________ Darren Griffin |

Err, I hope they don't mean by road!

It's 140 miles from central London to Newport which would mean an average of 93 MPH. I wonder how many of the new M4 speed cameras someone would set off if you did that speed. Watch out for the mobile cameras in Wales too. _________________ Gone fishing! |

I knew I would get the blame for that one. I reckon that it is about 2 hours from London as it is not quite in Newport. However that statement was lifted directly from the Celtic Manor web site so it must be accurate right? _________________ Mike Barrett |

I suspect that's by train. From Basingstoke it's a good 2.5hrs. And it's worth mentioning that the South Wales Safety Camera Partnership regularly occupy positions on bridges over the M4 between Magor and Newport, they've done this for some years with none of the press fuss the Wiltshire initiative received. If you're driving obey the limits and keep your eyes peeled! _________________ Darren Griffin |
