Having just bought the Tom Tom Go 300 with its 128Mb card supplied, can I transfer all the information onto a new 512Mb card and use as the original?
And if I buy a Cd from Ebay with lots of POI's etc, will it just go on the card and then be used or do I have to register anything?
A newbie to GPS, sorry.

yes you can use the 512 card as the original
no you don't need to register POI's
There is a list of ones that do/dont work. I bought a 512 PNY card before I saw the list, but so far it has been working fine |

CDs from ebay?
Check that they are not just copies of the free PoIs from the list on the left of this page. Some aren't even CDs they just e-mail the link to this site and other similar ones.
Don't forget the speed/safety camera ones too _________________ TTGO 700 (dead)

Thanks to both of you, excellent service. I do know all about the links etc on Ebay, having bought and sold quite a lot of gear on there!
Downloaded the speed camera info from here, now will do the POI as well. What a site!

Just another quick question please? The POI list are hundreds of different files that need downloading. Is there one file somewhere that will install on my Tom Tom and that's it?

Each file contains POIs in a particular category - e.g. MacDonalds or Football Stadiums etc. You need separate files in order to be able to search for POIs in a specified category - they wouldn't be much use if they were all in a single heap! BUT, be aware that TTG can only handle 40 3rd-party POI categories at a time. If you load more than 40 POI files onto your card, some of them won't show up. [You will need nearly half of this number for speed cameras if you go for the zoned (by speed limit) variety]. _________________ Roger

Thanks Roger, this gets more complicated by the minute! Yet another question please? On the preferences screen, I get a docking station option which includes the mute radio and dim lights at night bit. Is this docking station available or is it a proper car kit you need fitted?
I have something that turns down the radio - it's called the wife!!

The docking kit is for permanently wiring in the GO to your car. Works in the same way as a carphone kit - just unclip the GO when you leave the car. There's a picture of it on the TomTom site under Accessories.

Oh well, looks expensive, have to keep using the wife. At least that's been paid for (many times over!).

You need the proper car kit - a per SGOULD's post. The standard mount has no connections to radio or lighting switch - both required to mute the radio and sense when the lights are turned on. _________________ Roger
