need help quick please! US navman with Europe maps

I have a icn 510 which was bought about 8 months ago. I'm taking a trip over to Germany and Italy this summer and would love to take it with me. I called navman to ask about how to go about it and they said no matter where i get the maps from (Ebay or them) I have to reinstall the computer software, select UK or europe, and only install the europe maps. Is this correct? I'm alittle confused as to why I need to erase the US maps. Also one of the retailers says the maps he has only work for the "european" navman but the company itself stated that they're all the same. So whats going on, can I use any european maps on my icn, and if so how do I get them on?

One of the things I've read is that if you have both US and EU maps on a 510 at the same time, something goes awry and it screws things up somehow. There's no harm in wiping off your US maps and sticking the EU ones on for your trip to Europe. It doesn't take too long to reinstall the US ones when you get back home.

Those EU maps for sale on , the "Only works with EU models" variety, are probably pirate copies and should be avoided.

i have a similar problem, why wont my colleagues usa sd card with his maps on work in my navman and vice versa? the files are identically laid out on the card but the navman cant read them. is this because the maps have to be registered to a particular navman, if so how come my sd card can be read in another european navman?
