Tomtom speed camera alert questions

Hello, I have got TomTom for my C500, but I have a couple of questions about how the speed camera database bit works.

1. Will TomTom detect that I am near a speed camera even though I have not planned a route...in other words can I just run TomTom and have it alert me to speed cameras even without having a route planned?

2. How does the POI proximity detector know what type of camera I am near? I have replaced the data.chk file as instructed but I do not know how TomTom will recognise the individual types of camera?

i can only answer your first question. If you set up a warning on approach and then untick the next box which says only warn when on route then you will your warning sound when ever a speed camera is within your set distance. Remember though you will get a warning even if the camera is not on your road.
