simple answer - you can't . TomTom does not support cross-map navigation.

You need to navigate to Niagara, NY , and then manually switch maps as you cross the border.

Same problem if you want to go between certain states in the USA, such as from Idaho to Montana. I haven't tried it, but perhaps the "Major road network" map will be suitable. I can work around it, but it seems very primitive that I can't navigate within a country, even though my SD card will hold the entire country!

I think some programs (Garmin?) allow you to generate the maps you need from a map on a PC. You select the area of interest, then draw a rectangle. The PC outputs a map of the area.

After I have TT5 and see how it operates, and how good the maps are, I'll prioritize my complaints and suggestions. Right now, with TT4, the maps and POIs (specifically, the lack of POIs) are by far the big issues.

This won't change with TTN5. Same maps, same selection of POIs.

To be fair to TomTom - the inability to route across maps is partly caused by the licensing restrictions that TeleAtlas imposes. Maps cannot contain more than x million inhabitants (the exact number differs by license). That's why you have six independent big chunks (plus all these funny permutations that bloat it up to 8 CDs)

TTN4 and 5 has both the MRUS and the "Cities of America" maps which are - to some extend - mitigating the issue by giving you a network if interstates and state highways plus the city centers of the 20 biggest cities (ok, city centers from a geographic point of view, not related to real life).

But this is only for the US, and still doesn't help with the original problem in this thread. TomTom really should extend these two maps to include Canada.

MRUS and the "Cities of America" would be sufficient but they don't have any POI. Is this going to be corrected in TT5?

Cities of America has POIs. Besides that you can simply copy a POI.DAT from a different map set and use that.

We do also have the technology to combine multiple POI.DAT files into one but we'll hold off on this until TomTom have shown us that they are unwilling to implement this themselves. If that's the case then we will provide y'all with a all-in-one POI.DAT file for the whole of US and Canada.

I'm going to Canada (Manitoba) fom Virginia next week and I set four regions, that I will have to change during my trip, so I could have POI. Can I myself combine POI for these regions? I'm currently using TT2004.

You don't need this for Canada (since the Canada map already contains the POIs.

Which states are we talking about?

Lutz,

Do you think you could create POI for these states? I would greatly appreciated this and it would help enormously in our long trip.
