I am new to GPS, and currently have no product. I am looking to get a GPS system that will allow me to use Speed Camera alerts as my old road angel has died. A new road angel would be £320, so what can I get for my money that would cover the UK and UK speed cameras?

Thanks

Hi kerplunkuk,

Welcome to the forum! Thumbs Up

For £320, you might be able to get a TomTom Go 300 unit, or a PPC bundle with TomTom Navigator 3.

Any TomTom SatNav system will allow you to use the PocketGPSWorld camera database. Thumbs Up

Regards,

If you only require GB mapping then you could consider:
Navman iCN510 for around £350
TomTom GO300 for around £370
Both the above will take direct import of the safety camera database from this site.

Slightly cheaper would be a PDA system such as:
Mio 168 + TomTom Navigator 3 GB for around £325
PiN 300 complete with SmartSTv3 for around £325

This is a small selection and there are many others to choose from.Your choice will depend on budget and whether you want to do more than just navigate from a-b with camera alerts.

From reading the forums I see that the Tomtom software seems to be a favourite of most. Would I be better paying extra for thisrather than the generic Aldi/Lidl specials or even the Halfords PNA175 specials?
Where is the best palces to look for a tomtom system?

Thanks

Navigation from A to B with camera alerts is good for me. I assume those devices will recalculate if roads are closed and I have to take a diversion etc? Do they offer postcode search?

Do any have the facility to have radar detector functions?

Thanks

Yes they will recalculate the route but they don't have radar detection - only reported known positions of cameras, compiled into a database.
