Garmin Quest and World Map software

I'm a GPS virgin looking for some advice. I am about to buy a Garmin Quest to use in UK and Europe and in November 2005 I am planning a 1 year overland trip from the UK through Europe, North, Central and South Africa. My question is will the World Map source software (from Garmin) work with the Quest (can't get through to Garmin to ask!) and is there anything else I should be thinking of?

The unit will need to be in the car 90% of the time and will be used on a motorcycle from time to time. I will be taking a laptop with me to upload maps etc. Anyone know any good map software for Africa that would be compatable?
