I've been patiently waiting for TTN5 to come out, but starting to get a bit bored of the wait now though.

My primary reason for getting a GPS system was for traffic information, for which I intended to purchase TT's Traffic service - however, I'm looking for options of rival "A2B" software, but those that provide a traffic congestion service as well, with the ability to route around the congestion.

Answers on a postcard ?

Navigon MN|5, Route 66, and, not surprisingly, TomTom Navigator 3.07 Traffic edition...

Liked the look of Navigon, but that requires the dedicated gps receiver / tmc unit it seems .. and I already have a GlobalSat BT338.

Guess I'm waiting for TTN5 to come out then, right?

Thanks
Andy

Don't hold your breath - I for one am pretty happy with the functionality of 3.07 (even without traffic) and since the maps are pretty much the same anyhow the advantage of the new v4/v5 interface is weighed down by the large number of missing expert features.

It probably depends what you expect from the solution. You'll have to make up you own mind ;-)

Andy,
I'm using Alturion Pro 6 at the moment, and so far im impressed.
I haven't actually tried to use the traffic update but the programme has a lot in it and after getting used to the programme is relatively easy to use. It seems to be more geared towards the corporate market but does claim to have a traffic option.
I'll let u know once I suss out how traffic works on it! I'm not holding my breathe for tomtom5!
Good Luck!

if your a tt3 and upgrade to tt5 the map difference should be very large as tt3 maps are generally much older than the orignal go maps

So far for the theory. In reality there are a lot of areas over here where the maps have not improved from the original v2 versions. It really depends on where the single surveyor of TeleAtlas (it can't be more than one person) has driven over the last few years. Certainly not in Texas.

I totally agree, although it would be interesting to see what had been updated in the maps since V3 arrived. I think the GO and it's maps were released after TT V3. Some have remarked that the new release of the GO maps now no longer show their home location were as the pre update version did, smacks a bit like the TT V2 to TT V3 upgrade, destinations missing that were there before. The impression I get is that TT are trying to control what you run in conjunction with their software such as the introduction of the Camera database for which they want you to pay for and keep updated for them, without the configuration and facilities of programs such as CheckPOInt and GPSAssist can provide.
If the V5 maps don't have a substantial improvement over the V3 ones I'll be staying with what I have. TT5 leaves a lot to be desired over what V3 with GPSAssist can do with the Pocketgps Speed related camera files and the announcements.
