An interesting link regarding the mapping of southern Ireland was passed to me by my friend Guillaume at www.gpspassion.com.

The most amusing thing are some of the routing examples in Autoroute towards the end of the article.

Rolling Eyes It amazes me, how they can map France, Belguim, Spain etc, down to street level, but they can't map Ireland (Northern or Southern).

Tele Atlas really need to get their act together! Evil or Very Mad

Lets have some proper maps of Ireland please!!!

I'm inclined to agree. It was only about 18 months ago that the Ireland maps included the major roads of Ireland when the UK was 100% mapped as early as 1999.

To be fair though, I don't think Spain or Portugal are fully mapped yet.

There seem to be some major challenges involved in Ireland (see the Navteq article on this website for an insight), but it does seem like the Irish have been badly neglected. Of course, I'm biased because I travel to Ireland often - I am sure that the mapping is driven by commercial factors rather than the likes of my needs!

Big Stinky - Northern Ireland isn't that big - I would think you should be able to find your way round by now. Anyway - getting lost in a scoob is half the fun Wink

Ireland coverage TomTom '500' = Major Roads only.
Ireland coverage TomTom '700' = Major Roads only.

Like i've said the coverage of Ireland is absolutly crap, and virtually no use to a person who wants to visit the country.

Even the flagship '700' Go series does NOT have mapping of any towns/cities in Ireland. I have been advised by TomTom themselves, that they have only the major roads of Ireland on the '700'.

Is that crap or what Exclamation Evil or Very Mad

Belfast centre is quite well mapped as part of the UK map. - Most streets within M1/M2/ outer ring seem to be there - beyond that it is very poor
