Hi can anyone shed any light on a problem I have been having for many months and to date I cannot isolate the source to the problem.
The set up I have is Fortuna BT GPS Com 6
Ipaq 4150 ROM Ver 1.10,
Bluetooth version: Firmware 3.16, Hardware 1.3, Software 1.41.75
TomTom Navigator 3.07 traffic, Checkpoint 3.2, GPS Ver 3.07
The problem I am having is 2 things.
Problem 1
1)I power up TomTom set my destination and begin driving at no specific time interval TomTom shuts down and I return to the windows today screen. (GPS continues)
2) Some times TomTom then restarts itself automatically other times I have to manually restart it and then reset my destination etc.[/list]
Problem 2
1) Power up TomTom set my destination and off I drive.
2) At a random interval sometimes 5 minutes sometimes 45 or so TomTom just locks up and stops responding.
3) On some occasions you can still navigate the TomTom menus, other times the entire PDA is locked and a soft reset is required.
4) GPS dots stop moving although the GPS connection on the receiver is still flashing indicating a connection, internet stops working and so does traffic.
5) What normally happens is the screen changes from showing your speed and distance to either showing a frozen speed i.e. doesn’t change, or the distance to next step locks and remains constant.
6) I have noticed this quite often happens when approaching a next step, or if you go of route it locks rather than recalculate.
7) Sometimes it will just work all day others it just continually locks up
What I have tried so far
1) Contacted TomTom explaining the issues they said they hadn’t received any other problems from 4150 users and that I should reinstall the software, I had made it clear that I had already done this several times already !.
2) Rolled back GPS driver and tried every version from 2.06 – 3.07 no change
3) Rolled traffic back from 3.07 – 3.04 no change
4) Tried the above in combinations – no change
5) Tried rolling the IPAQ ROM back to version 1.00 no change
6) Tried running without Checkpoint no change
7) Decreased the number of POI’s no change
8) Tried a hard reset and rebuilt TomTom still hangs
9) Totally drained the GPS battery and re established pairing no change
10) Moved the GPS receiver and PDA around the car to see if there was a connection / distance issues no change, currently they are about 0.5 metre’s apart.
11) Changed the SD card for Kingston, Viking, Intergral (high speed) no change
12) Reinstalled the maps no change
13) Cleared the IPAQ of any non standard programs no change
14) Put CPU monitoring software on IPAQ, never spikes or runs out of memory or CPU.
I just don’t know what else to try now I’m hoping that perhaps the TomTom 5 upgrade may fix these issues. My problems as far as I can think back either started when I upgraded the ROM, GPS Driver, or Traffic version, when I uset to use Traffic 3.04, ROM 1.00 and GPS 3.04 all seemed to be well, however it could just be coincidence. Unfortunately I performed all these steps pretty much at the same time so I cant say for sure when it started, however backing these changes out, reinstalling etc is having no effect any ideas or things to try would be much appreciated.
There is one only consitant in all these options. The IPAQ itself. (The GPS is another, but the fact that TTN3 shuts down and the GPS stays active precludes it). I would have said it would be the SD card, but as you have tried several and (although you don't state it) re-installed the maps, I doubt it would be that.
In my humble view (and that is based on writings of th ecollective here), most lockups are to do with reading the maps on the SD card. As you have tried internal memory, that discounts the SDIO port.
I'd have a chat with the supplier. I have had three IPAQs and all of the ran TTN3 without locking up. _________________ iPhone5, TomTom, Google maps, Navfree, Viewranger and Apple Maps (ekk)
