Guys,

Like a fair few of you I am eagerly awaiting the new tomtom x30 range and hope to go for the 930 at the end of April (well knowing tomtom i suspect end of May). Anyway I have allways been the type of person that finds it hard to part with my gadgets, I still have first version of Tomtom on my pda, and my old Tomtom Go300 which i could never part with.

My question is, i dont think their will be much of a need for me to keep my Go 910 if i buy the 930. Looking online their doesnt seem to be much value left in older models, i dont think i would get much more than £50 for my 910. Do you think its worth keeping hold of the 910 (as I spent £500 when it came out) or sell it for £50 ? Seems such a waste of money to seel it for £50, i'd rather give it to a charity. Does anyone know of any charities that takes in tomtoms etc?

Cheers,

It can be upgraded to newer maps and software. You might not want to pay but it can be made almost as recent as a 720/920 so someone might want it!

Ask around people you know. And some might we happy with old maps/software. But with a new 720 around £160.... it's not worth much. That's technology for you.

Also the reason why [Personally] I never purchase the latest model Twisted Evil

I'm sure I saw the 520 out for around the £300 mark at one point (Althought i could be mistaken)

I purchased it for £200 a month back and now it's down to £179.

Gotta laugh Laughing

Hello limans75 I would think any charity that uses voluntary drivers would be pleased to receive such a gift. I do work for the Guide Dogs Association and purchased my own TT after trying out one they had available for general use, but that was only one to share among several possible drivers, many going to strange towns to collect and transport dogs and owners, so there are probably dozens of other similar charities who could use such a gift in a similar way

I may be interested in a used TT at some future point.

Depending on the future of the Talex database and/or the possibility of a PGPSW SCD device I may consider a used TT just as a SCD.

Help out an old man here, please? - the first page of Acronym definitions doesn't seem to fit SCD.

First six are :-
Schedule
Sickle Cell Disease
Doctor of Science
Sudden Cardiac Death
Specific Carbohydrate Diet
Scottish Country Dancing

Confused

Self Conscious Driver?

...but, alas, I'm no expert in acronyms - although I think it might be

Safety Camera Database

EDIT - alas, it might also be Second Car Device

EDIT

I think upon reflection it might more appropriately be read thus
"Safety Camera Detector"

Alas, poor Dennis! I knew it; and now, how abhorred in my imagination it is!

Henceforth, it shall be known thus:

"Secret Car Device"

EDIT - alas, following the TomTom update, it might also be known thus:

"Software Corruption Detector"

Thanks for your comments guys,

I have already updated with the maps in January to enable map share, although its already out of date! doesnt suprise me one bit.

EricWB - I never thought about charities which could actually use tomtoms rather than just sell them for the charity they can actully use it. I will have a look around and see if any charities could make use of it for say a delivery or visitor type person.

Kremmen - I may consider selling it for a "Secret Car Device", but would have to be for £100 or something otherwise i'd give it to charity.

Does anyone know where all these "re-conditioned" tomtoms come from? dont suppose you would get much selling it to a company re-conditioning it.

At a guess, these re-conditioned TomToms are probably faulty when purchased, or develop a fault shortly afterwards and are returned to TT as 'DOA' units.

Since they are likely to be in pretty good condition, TT will re-work them and sell them as reconditioned or refurbished units rather than bin them.

Quite often, such units can be a better buy than 'new' because they will have undergone additional testing and possibly have components changed as a precaution rather than just because they were faulty.
