Hi there,

just wanted to know from you ICN 510 users, does this unit come with the Republic of Ireland maps, and if so how detailed. i.e. are they the same detail as the U.k street maps.

I presume they've got Northern Ireland on there as well?

Thanks in advance! Rolling Eyes

When you buy "UK" maps, you get Ireland (North and South) thown in for free. That's the good news.

The bad news is that Ireland coverage is very poor. I don't think TeleAtlas cover much more than Dublin and Belfast at street level and most of the major roads in Ireland are not mapped at all.

Navteq aren't much better, although they have recently mapped the major roads.

Do a forum search for "Ireland" and you will find other posts about this.

Feel free to write to complain to the software suppliers, TeleAtlas and Navteq. The more people that complain, the more likely they are to do something about it.

The V3 SmartST maps are nowhere near as bad as this, Skippy. Most major roads are mapped and there are more places than Dublin and Belfast at street level. The same goes for Garmin CitySelect V7.

OK, sorry for the misunderstanding. I was thinking of my old CitySelect v4 maps. Embarassed

Question So as a percentage how much of the Republic of Ireland is covered on the ICN 510 software?

And to clarify ROI maps come as standard with the ICN 510 base model?

Confused

TeleAtlas refer to coverage as a percentage of the population. Currently this is about 45%.

The standard iCN510 will have the UK and Ireland maps (Major cities as specified above) unlocked.

More info on map regions here.

Guess what, just contacted TomTom about coverage on their '700' series (NEW flagship 'GO'model), it doe'nt have even half these towns listed, just Dublin, Cork, and Galway.

I was going to shell out £550 for one of these, but i think i'll just buy the standard ICN 510, unless the Premium edition has more detailed maps of the Republic of Ireland? Anyone know more about this??
