if you have downloaded navigator v3 this afternoon and having install problems download it again as it's all ready been updated to v3.1 - which installs ok.

the file I downloaded first was

VMNavigation_V3-0 - wouldn't install

the second download was

VMNavigation_V3-1 installed ok

both the files are 198294kb

not sure what is reported on the palm (I think it says 3.0) as its in my wifes car at the moment.

I'm still soldiering on with v1.3.2 but am following this with interest. When I go to the patches section of the ViaMichelin Website (here http://www.shop.viamichelin.co.uk/csasp_showedito.asp?menuID=10) I see only the v2.5.2 patch for v2.5. Do v3.0 and v3.1 patch v2.5? Where are they?

If there are any ex-users of v1.3.2 who have upgraded to v2.5 and patches, I would be pleased to see a summary of what the differences are (I've followed the POI threads here), and whether they think the upgrade is worthwhile.

you have to register your 2.5 version on the site and then you receive a special login and password to take you to the download and the v3 info.

V3 is far easier to use on the move (or rather in the car) as it now has large finger screen buttons you can operate it without the stylus and all the pull down menu's.

It's now a case of navigate to - enter the town name (or part of) and enter the street (or part of) enter the no. and off you go. It is very similar in operation to tomtom (and works very well).

I've spent a good amount of time trying to get tomtom nav 3 to work on my wifes tungsten e with some success but no reliability - this viamichelin upgrade does away with the need for this.

Can anyone tell me whether v3.0/3.1 it will navigate in any mode other than car + quickest route? Does it have a way of expressing a preference for or against major roads?

I've only had a quick play with it - I'll find out tonight (when my other half returns home) how it performs on a 150 mile journey.

From memory and when I was setting it up......... You can certainly change from quickest route to some thing (possibly shortest), you can very easily change the road speeds for all types individually - though not to below 25mph - I don't recall any obvious way of avoiding particular roads (perhaps putting a very low speed in to motorways woudl do this?) - I think you can also change the vehicle from car to pedestrian (don't quote me).

The quickest/shortest route options haven't changed since the original version. 3.0 is mostly down to interface changes. The biggest functionality change is the ability to enter postcodes.

One thing I haven't yet found is the "Centre GPS" mode; this was my favourite mode on the older version when I didn't want it to do navigation.

I found it tonight but it doesn't work (on 30.0 at least) the way it used to on 1.3. When your position gets to the edge of the current map it just stops.
