After reading reviews and forums for several weeks I decided the HP 1710 would be the best, low cost, solution for me. That is until someone mentioned the car charging prob! Why is it a prob? The Mio 168 with it's integrated GPS seemed a good choice until I read that the volume is very low.

Please could someone tell me which of the evils is the greater prob, 1710 charging or Mio volume.

Thanks

I don't have a problem with the volume... just how loud is it in your car ? Rolling Eyes

I run a Peugeot 306 Diesel - and I have no problem with the volume on my MIO 168 - If I remember to turn the volume to before starting up the navigation software, as in the Office I have it set really low !! Laughing

Volume on the Ipaq wasn't too bad in my experience however it did crash several times and would only work when plugged into the cigar lighter which was no use to me.

Have read about the Mio not having a great speaker aswell which has put me of it slightly and have just posted asking how it compares to the Tom Tom

Sorry, meant to say that in last post.

Biggest thing I did not like was that it HAS to be plugged in to the cigar lighter to work.. the Mio on the other hand can run of the battery (for upto 4hrs I understand)

Thanks for the replies. My car is not particularly noisy so it sounds like the Mio would be fine. I guess the 1710 having to be plugged in would only be a prob if I wanted to charge my phone. As the 1710 is a pda I presume it's battery can be charged other than in the car lighter socket. How much hassle is it not having an integral GPS receiver, can it be used as a pedestrian fo locate an address for instance.

I am really trying to be patient and wait for v5 of TT before buying anything but am very keen to get on with it!

Stick out out for v5, if only for the post codes!

No - Pedestrian option not an option... the cradle charges the PDA and powers the GPS unit, no power means only a PDA and a lot of cables.

I am trying to decide between a TT Go and the Mio - the Mio would be slightly cheaper and have the basic PDA functions aswell, but a dedicated unit such as the Go 'should' be faster and have a better display... (comments on this last one pls)
