There are a lot of TomTom Go Classic owners, surely some enterprising manufacturer could develop a tomtom go cradle adaptor that would effectively convert the classic into a bluetooth device. |

Mmm so are you saying TTG is 'old' technology? Bummer if this is the case seeing as I just bought one.
So is there a threat that TTG will not be supported some time in the near future or are TT dedicated to supporting all models? |

The TomTom Go 300, 500 and 700 will be replacing the classic from some timew in the summer. With the v5 upgrade the major difference will be the bluetooth capability. If the classic can have this then it will not be an obsolete platform, if not, the lack of bluetooth could leave us all behind in the techy stakes |

What I was suggesting was that if someone would come up with a bluetooth add on we could then have all the facilities available on the later models |

The TomTom Go 300 is NOT Bluetooth enabled.
See here,
http://www.tomtom.com/products/product.php?ID=72&Language=1#
Click the "See how it works link" then " Go Compare".
CLEARLY show it's NOT Bluetooth. _________________ Using an A to Z

The Compare page suggests that the Bluetooth Carkit isn't included with the 300, which isn't the same as the unit itself not being Bluetooth enabled. I think that further clarification from Tomtom is in order, though. _________________ Tim

Oldboy,,
Now i'm TOTALLY confused.
Do TomTom know themselves if it is, or isn't.
I give up with em. _________________ Using an A to Z

The Go 300 is a bluetooth device.
The feature that is missing is the Handsfree phone. It is still able to access traffic and the rest of the plus services using the BT connection. _________________ Mike Barrett |

Seeing it IS a BT device, and it's using V5, then surely it must be able to pair up with a BT mobile phone??.
Or have TomTom some magical powers that does otherwise, that it blocks out mobile phones, to use TT Plus, and traffic, don't you need a mobile phone connected? _________________ Using an A to Z

You can pair it with a mobile phone. As I said above. What is missing is the headset/handsfree profile, and associated hardware.
It uses a seperate modem profile to access the Plus services. _________________ Mike Barrett |

The best comparison whaich shows these features is at http://www.tomtom.com/lib/compare.pdf
This clearly shows all the new GOs are BT enabled, but only the 500 and 700 have handsfree phone functions.
Now the real point of this topic was can the current GO have a trd party addon to enable it for bluetooth. I think that it "may" be physically impossible without internal modifications depending on the connectors exposed on the mount.
Assuming that you do have the correct connecters though and can get the data into the GO you would still need to:
1) Design and build a new connector with the BT Module in it.
2) Modify the internal software of the GO to accept the modem/internet data via the external connector.
3) Find someone with sufficient capital for the hardware development
4) Access to the core software kernel and development tools to modify the BT section of the GO software.
So taking all of these into consideration it is unlikely that even if possible this will get off the ground. _________________ Mike Barrett |
