Can you name this 9532 backup battery

Heyou

Anyone know what this batteries identity is??

It's on the underside of the circuit board, i didn't think there was battery at first it's so small, and it's what's causing my wired GPS to take forever to get it's first fix.

Description :-
The only things written on the battery are :-
on the side of it "0302"
on the positive face :- "IIS" and "made in Japan"

It may have more writing on it but it also has 2 circuit board solder tags spot welded to it, covering up any more info. I think, i've worked out that it's 3 volt?? by plugging in the charging unit and measuring the voltage coming from the battery whilst it's on the circuit board!! but of course i may completely wrong about this.

It never gets to above 2.2volts after being on the DC supply and remove the DC supply and it drops down to .6 volts within a few hours.

I've emailed Leadtek, no response, and i guess they won't tell me what the battery anyway, only that they'll repair the unit for a price!! I know i can fix this if only i could source a battery for it.

So what i'm after is - 3volt ? - 6.5mm Dia. X 1.5mm height.
I'm pretty sure it's rechargeable.
It has 2 solder tags on it but i won't hold my breath - i could modify it to solder it to the circuit board.

I think that the voltage you are detecting has nothing to do with the cell voltage, it would be very unusual to find a cell that does not have a nominal 1.2 volts.

About it not being a 3 volt cell. As i said i measured the voltage across the battery with the charger plugged and then charged it up over the course of 12 hours.

I then unplugged the charger and measuered the voltage and it never got above 2.2 volts. Now either way that way above 1.2 volts, if it's a 1.2 volt cell but comfortably below for a knackered battery top be a 2.4 volt cell.

So i wonder which way i should go??

I have a similar cell in my 9537 BT Gps and yes it is a 3v cell. http://www.smallbattery.company.org.uk/ Try these people, they're very helpful, quick and don't rip you off with postage.

Funnily enough, i emailed the Small Battery Company http://www.smallbattery.company.org.uk/ along a few others, and they were the only ones to reply. I'm speaking to a very helpful chap and he's trying to decide if it's a Lithium cell or not?

Do you know if it's a Lithium cell? i'm certain it's a rechargeable cell but what chemical makeup i don't know? nickel metal hydride or NiCad?

Did you manage to get a battery that worked for you and did you fit it?

I didn't need a battery as the problem was elsewhere (see my other threads on the 9537) however I did remove the cell on the pcb which looks very similar to yours with the same welded tags and checked it and it was definately 3volts.

Did anyone ever manage to obtain a replacement 9532 battery? Mine took 15 mins when parked stationary at the side of a very wide road to get a fix this morning - its becoming a nightmare.

I assume that the backup battery won't help improve a cold-fix startup time, but at least it would keep its settings a bit better when I stop the car for a few minutes....
