No, the stuff you load or the locations you create and save should be on the SD disk and just fine.

Think of the 'reset' button as an off/on switch just the same as your computer. Using it will not affect any on the software or your preferences loaded on the SD Card. The switch on the front of the Navman merely puts the unit to sleep - not off.

Sorry! Got confused over the 'Reset' switch on the top of the Navman and the 'on/off' switch on the back.

Turning the unit Off then On using the latter switch will enable the maps to be reloaded from the SD card. I thought the Reset switch actually returned the unit to its default settings but, like you, have neither tried it nor found any reference to it in the Manual. Embarassed

The reset button at the top doesn't take it back to factory default, it merely does a soft reset but the diff between that and the reset done by turning off the battery switch is beyond me.

Neither the reset or the power off on the back takes the unit to default. The soft power off just puts the unit in like a power saving mode, so when you turn it on it does not reload all the maps and will search out the GPS in the sky faster. If you power off the unit from the back, this will cause the unit to reload the maps in memory and then take longer to search out the GPS in the sky. That's about it

Actually the ON/OFF switch on the rear is the master reset and will reset the 510 to factory defaults. The ON/OFF Switch on the front puts the unit to sleep and the reset hole simply 'reboots' the unit and does not affect installed programs or data.

Well here's the rub...........

The on/off switch on the front is a standby switch that will drain the battery.
The on/off switch on the back switches the unit off with no battery drain but does not alter any of your settings.
The reset button on the top does -all and there's no combination of the above that sets my unit back to factory default.

I just know I'm going to be wrong!!!!!

The rear on/off does NOT rest the unit to default. It is merely a battery saving feature that is recommended if you are not going to use the unit for any length of time like a week or more. If, like most people, you use the power from the car battery, then it really doesn't matter whether you have battery left or not.

My apologies, on the Mitac 138 reference design units (upon which the 510 is based) tha ON/OFF switch on the rear performs a Hard Reset.

Well actually, you're half right then. It DOES perform a hard reset but doesn't revert to default. It simply reloads all the maps and reboots the system. I'm not very computer-minded, but I would consider that to be a hard reset.

Switching the unit off using the Rear Switch
Completely resets the unit
The Reason the prefs are not reset is they are saved on the Sd Card
and Reloaded along with the maps and the Smart St Software is reloaded into memory

The Reset Button on top does the same as holding down the Home Button
Soft Reset
