On a road I travel to work, there is a Truvelo camera, amongst the pletherer of Gatso's.When my Navman warns me I'm approaching it,my screen is telling me it's a Specs camera.

This must be the case with a lot of cameras up and down the country, and I realise that the wrong information has been submitted.

How can this information be updated so that people get the correct warning?

if you email Cameras@PocketGPSWorld.com and advise on the mistake they might be able to change the type of camera.

Excuse my ignorance, but what is the difference between Truvelo and Gatso?

Truvelo catches you head (so the warning must be greater as you are driving into the speed trap head on) and the camera does not flash so you dont know if you have been caught speeding.

Thanks,
I know the ones you mean, did not know their name.
If the Speed camera database distinguishes between them and should show a different Icon and sound a different Warning, then a whole load are incorrectly identified on the A14 I believe.
I will check when I am next along there, but I think all the cameras between Cambridge and Huntingdon are shown as standard Gatsos, but at least half are the Truvelo type.

I tried asking on how cameras can be updated but got the most complicated instructions you could ever possibly imagine! Any chance of a web based submission form?

Why does it matter whether a camera is a GATSO or a Truvelo? What difference would it make to how you reacted to it? Confused

Currently it has been decided that Gatsos and Truvelos will be grouped in the same section of the database. If the number of Truvelos increases, or enough are identified to make the creation of yet another section, the situation will be reviewed.

Gatsos take a picture of the rear of the vehicle, Truvelos take a picture of the front. If I were engaged in some spirited riding on my motorcycle, I would be able to concentrate more on the road without the need to use some of my concentration on unmanned toll booths.

geraint "Truvelo catches you head (so the warning must be greater as you are driving into the speed trap head on) and the camera does not flash so you dont know if you have been caught speeding." The camera does not catch you as you go past it catches before you reach it.

Just send some details in and I will tell you if I can use them. We use the road speed limit at the camera site for Gatso and Mobile camera types so please include it.

The point I'm trying to make is that we shouldn't be speeding anyway. All I want to know is that I'm approaching a camera so that I can make sure that my speed hasn't crept up a little bit. I don't care whether the camera flashes or not, or whether it photographs from in front or behind. I'm still going to be driving towards it - the fact that it photographs you from the front or from behind is immaterial.

As to referring to them as unmanned toll booths, well I would argue that the toll is free if you're not breaking the law...

Geraint,

I'm not going to get drawn into this in a big way because it was done not so long ago. You say that we shouldn't be speeding anyway but you accept that your speed might have crept up, indicating that you might be speeding. Personally, I endeavour to know my speed at all times. I'd much rather know that I'm doing, say, 45 in a 40 limit rather than thinking I'm doing 38.
