Screen Protectors

Has anyone tried a screen protector that actually reduces reflections and enhances screen clarity in bright sunlight, or is that just wishful thinking?
I've tried "Belkins" but they actually make the screen worse.

I bought one from PCWorld, camd as a pack of 2 for £9.99. It certainly cuts down the reflections but improving the brightness is hoping.

I'm considering the old Blue Peter kit (Cornflakes Box) and am going to make a hood. Not to sure how I'm going to fix it yet though.
