Hi All,
Does anyone know if you also have to have the iCN plugged in if you use the Navman card reader/writer?
Its on this page http://www.navman-store.com/range.php?category=Accessories&range=iCN+600+Series
I ask cos its a real pain to have to keep plugging in the unit just to install maps.
Its that or buy a bigger memory chip! _________________ Mark

You certainly have to have the PPC connected if sending the maps to a cardreader. I expect it to be the same for the iCN as the Desktop needs to 'tie' the maps to the unit and can possibly only do this uf the unit is connected at the same time. _________________ Tim |

I have an iCN630 but I use a Belkin Read/Write unit to transfer maps direct from my PC to an SD card without having to connect the iCN630.
How versatile is the Navman Card Reader The Belkin I have covers 8 different types of Card.
On the iCN Desktop, from the menu you select Install Maps, and from there you can use the PC Removable Media box to load your selection. I haven't a clue what the other versions can do but I would presume they should have the same facility

I've just looked at your link to the Navman store, their unit looks a bit limited and for the price they are asking a bit expensive. I'd have a look at Jessops which was where I bought mine about 9 months ago.

Hi AlfieB,
Have you got V2? Cos V3 has to have the unit connected! Right pain - but I guess they do it so that if you haven't pan european, they can check licences - but you would have thought it could be done in the unit itslef - not run the countries that the haven't been paid for. _________________ Mark

Hi Mark
No I'm still using the old V2, haven't yet seen the need to spend out the extra on upgrading to V3. It might have some good features but as of yet I've not been able to convince myself that I really need them. From what you say about the Card Reader I think that's a retrograde step on the part of Navman, is there any real benefit then in buying a Card Reader
Regards

Hi AlfieB,
Just read your signature! Bit of a givaway!
I've already got a card reader - just wondered if it had something in it to make connecting the iCN redundant.
Card reader is much quicker than the iCN direct. _________________ Mark
