I'm in a bind, I'm getting pretty familiar with the GPS I have (Magellan 4000 XL). I just purchased a tract of land and plan on visiting in the next 3-4 weeks. The problem is that I don't have normal coordinates and was hoping someone here could help.
I have one set of coordinates, but the rest of the 'description' is in compass vectors which I'm not familiar with at all. Here is a picture of the 'land' and I'll cut-paste the 'description'
I need to pinpoint coordinates for each of the 4 corners on lot #60 (very bottom lot). The picture below is Sec. 8.

The information I have follows:
BEGINNING: at a point N 50º 29' 11" E 1479.25 feet and S 40º 03' 55" E 4644.85 feet from the NW corner of Section 8 and described as the SE corner of Lot 52.
THENCE: S 50º 25' 19" W 858.83 feet to the NW corner of the lot;
THENCE: S 40º 32' 03" E 767.85 feet to the SW corner of the lot;
THENCE: N 50º 09' 51" E 852.53 feet to the SE corner of the lot;
THENCE: N 40º 03' 55" W 763.98 feet to the Point of Beginning at the NE corner of the above referenced tract.
I guess all I reall need is the Lon/Lat for the NW corner of lot 60 (which is the same as the SW corner of lot 52 I think). |

That's somewhere around Marfa, right next to the Mexican border, right?
A lot of stuff doesn't make sense in the picture. According to the rose the corners of the lots are N, W, S, E rather than NW, SE etc.
The handwritten GPS coordinates are for which corner? N corner of Lot 1 or W corner of Lot 8? _________________ Lutz

yup, it's in Presidio county/Marfa Texas, about 3 miles from the Mexican border.
These coordinates make ZERO sense to me. That's why I'm trying to get some help. Luckily, the surveyors that provided them are in San Antonio (I'm in Austin). I'll give them a call this week and see if I can get it sorted out. |
