HI
I have today purchased the Mitac Mio 168 with the tom tom 3 navigation disc.
I have installed the software on to the pocket pc and the maps to a card... but
it will not receive a gps signal.
I think my problem is in the initial set up as when it asks what is the connection and shows pictures or bluetooth, I really do not know the answer so am not sure.
Which ever one I try it will not search for a signal at all. Have been out in the garden pointing at the sky
Also, I am now a bit worried as I did a mater reset on the pc and loaded it all again to see if it would work and am now worried that it won't activate.
sorry to appear thick, but I am fairly pc literate but very new to gps navigation!
Also I am too impatient to wait and write to tom tom support and am hoping someone here can help tonight
thanks everyone - you knowledgeable lot!

Choose the 'Other GPS' option rather than the Bluetooth and then Set it for Serial on Com2 or just COM2 and 4800bps and you'll be sorted _________________ Darren Griffin

Hello Jean
The connection to look for on the mio168 should be Serial Cable on SP2, depending on the software you could find that on COM1 or COM2. |

Thankyou I knew I could rely on you .
Just had another go and got it to pick up the signal fine.
Trouble is I am now not going out till tomorrow and I want to play with it! :D
I am sure there will be more questions from me - I have been following some of the posts for the last few weeks before I bought so am learning such a lot.
Read somewhere that if I want to get the USA maps I may have a problem with the 168.
As we are off to Florida in October it would be useful if we could get the USA maps. Anyone got them. I am sure I read a post on here where someone had got them and they worked. |

Currently the US are on a different version to us so it's far from straightforward. However don't fret, TTNv5 is due out imminently (ther is a discounted upgrade for registered TTnv3 users) and the US will follow in the Summer so you should be able to get v5 US maps well before your trip in October. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Thanks, I did see a bit about tom tom 5 and was wondering whether to hold back before buying, but if I can upgrade then that will solve that problem. I will keep watching here for instructions on how to do it! :D |
