rx 3715 turn off screen saver in GPS external power mode

I have had an iPaq before but I have just bought an HP rx3715 with Tom Tom 3.07 installed. Had a lot of heartache getting it installed but all now seems to be running OK.
I have a very simple question (I think) - how do you turn off the screen saver when you have the iPaq on car external charging so that you can see the maps and do not have to keep tapping the screen to bring it back?I know this is probably fairly fundamental but it is driving me mad.
